Pediatric Genetic Services

Compassionate Care for Developmental & Genetic Concerns

Every child is unique, but sometimes they follow a different developmental path. We specialize in evaluating children with complex health or developmental needs to find the "why" behind their symptoms and create a roadmap for their progress.

When to Consider a Pediatric Genetic Evaluation?
A referral to a genetic counselor is often recommended if a child experiences:

  • Developmental Delays: Sitting, walking, or talking later than expected.
  • Intellectual Disability: Challenges with learning or cognitive tasks.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): To identify if there is an underlying genetic cause.
  • Growth Concerns: Being much shorter, taller, or smaller than peers (Failure to Thrive).
  • Unique Physical Features: Distinctive facial features or birth defects (heart, limb, or organ anomalies).
  • Neurological Issues: Unexplained seizures, low muscle tone (hypotonia), or regression in skills.
  • Metabolic Signs: Unusual odors, persistent vomiting, or specific dietary sensitivities.

The Power of a Diagnosis

Parents often ask, "How will a genetic test help my child?" A diagnosis is more than just a label—it is a key to better care

  • Targeted Treatment: Some genetic conditions have specific therapies or dietary requirements that can improve outcomes.
  • Ending the "Diagnostic Odyssey": No more repetitive testing or uncertainty; you get a clear answer.
  • Accessing Support: A formal diagnosis often helps families qualify for specialized school services, therapies (PT/OT/Speech), and government assistance
  • Future Planning: Understanding if a condition is hereditary helps parents understand the chance of it occurring again in future siblings.

Support Beyond the Lab Result

Our role doesn't end when the test results come in. If a condition is identified, we:

  • Connect you with specialists (Neurologists, Cardiologists, etc.).
  • Provide resources for parent support groups.
  • Work with your pediatrician to create a long-term health surveillance plan.
What to Expect at Your Visit?

We strive to make our clinic a "no-stress zone" for your child.

  •   Clinical Review: We review your child’s birth history, milestones, and medical records.
  •   Physical Exam: A gentle evaluation of growth and physical traits.
  •   Genetic Counseling: We explain the testing process, what we hope to find, and how we will support you through the results.
  •   Sample Collection: Most tests require only a simple blood draw or a painless cheek swab.
